Revenue of Dutch business services rise

For the last few years, business services revenue in the Netherlands has been growing. However, there was an exception. In 2020 the world was struck by a pandemic, and for the first time in years, a decrease in revenue was shown. But the increase picked up again, growing faster than before, and in the fourth quarter of 2021, revenue in the Dutch business service market rose by an astonishing 19% (CBS, 2022).

Confidence

The 19% rise in 2021 is compared to the same quarter a year earlier. In the entire year, revenue still rose by a significant 13.4%. The surge comes after a year of diminishment. 2020 was characterized by many lockdowns, other restrictions, and insecurities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, many of these restrictions were still in place, but entrepreneurs had more confidence in the economy (CBS, 2022). This allowed revenue in business services to blossom and the highest increase in years to show.

Travel

The sector with the most significant increase in 2021 was the travel sector. They had a tremendous rise with extremely high revenue peaks compared to 2020. The industry expanded by a whopping 257% compared to the previous year (CBS, 2022). In this sector, the increase was no surprise, as in 2020, many countries closed their borders, making it very difficult to travel. The following year, travelling became more accessible, and people got excited to go abroad again. Nevertheless, the level is still under the pre-COVID revenue, allowing for potential future growth. Moreover, both the management advisory sector and the security sector saw an expansion of an impressive 18% (CBS, 2022).
